P0171 -
Basically this means that an oxygen sensor in bank 1 detected a lean condition (too much oxygen in the exhaust). On V6/V8/V10 engines, Bank 1 is the side of the engine that has cylinder #1.

symptoms:
You will more than likely not notice any drivability problems, although there may be symptoms such as a lack of power, detonation (spark knock), and/or a hesitation/surge on acceleration.

I had the same code come up on my 97. I went to AutoZone and picked up a $75.00 coil pack. Had my buddy pull the codes and erase them. Changed out the coil pack. Two days later the CEL came back on. Had buddy pull the codes and found the P0171 was gone. He said the coil pack was the cause of the code. There was a few other codes that the coil pack fixed. Not suggesting you go out and replace the coil pack on your car.....just stating what I did to fix the problem.
