More details about sound needed. Knocking? Pinging? Popping? etc.

How hard exactly were you pushing it? The exhaust note becoming louder and different makes me think you may have developed an exhaust leak under the car.

How is oil pressure and coolant temps doing?

depends...but mostly sounds like the car has a cold...hard to explain...

my tractor had a broke exhaust pipe and it sounded HORRIBLE. youll know the difference sometimes rust can be the culprit too...sometime the soundll be small but there, you ignore it or dont recognize it until the sound becomes HUGE....also loss of power if really bad

ok i got the car fixed for free yesterday cuz it has a 8 year or 80k miles warranty, but on the right side of the y pipe there was a crack that completely disconnected the two, thats why it was so loud and the reason it sounded bad was cuz some of the air would go through the rest. there were two options, either get it welded for $60 or go to dealership and they installed a new y pipe for free. but just so u guys know they say that most 99-04 mustangs have a manufacturer defect in where they placed the A/C, basically all the cold water that drips gets onto the right side pipe and then when you push it even a little all the hot air will cause it to break. they say most mustangs 99-04s will have to get it repaired or replaced at least once.

Yeah, we've seen this here alot. There is a kit out there you can buy to keep the water from getting onto the exhaust pipe, but Im sure most people just create their own fix-it for free.
