How 'bout a short throw shifter? That $200 will increase the fun factor.

Mid Pipe Back Exhaust (shop fabed) - $250/400 - 5-8 rwhp
Mid Pipe Back (name brand then installed) - $600/1000 (exhaust brand pending) - 5-10 rwhp
Gears/Tlok - $500 + $250/400 install - 0 rwhp, marginally better performance though
Tuner - $200 (used), $400/500 (new) - 5-10 rwhp, can adjust tranny settings to improve overall performance, and depending on the agressiveness of that tranny tune, perfomance improvement can be drastic (making your auto comparable to that of a manual for instance).
Thanks, I definitely will be keeping this list handy

Ah ok, I know what you're talking about. So just pull that end of it out the the fender well, saw off the snorkel part and stick the rest back on?

A tuner definitely seems to be something to save up for then. Preferably one which can switch "on the fly" to change between, say, an economy setting and an "I just wanna have fun" setting =P

I only wanted the t-lok because the idea of only spinning one wheel just seems lame to me. Even if it doesn't give hp, it'll give traction. There happens to be a left turn I need to make daily out of my neighborhood, and rather quickly too (being heavy traffic, if i don't gun it i'll have to wait there 15+ min for an opening). Unfortunately, there's almost always a line of water across it, meaning my tires are wet while I'm accelerating during the turn. It's not uncommon to fishtail trying to make it out of there. I'd think a t-lok would at least help curb that sliding.

As for exhaust... what mustang owner wouldn't want a nice deep sound coming out of there? Being an overall DIY-er I'd want to do as much as I can myself, but am almost afraid to not pass emissions (being in Cali) if I do something wrong. I'm already cutting it close on one of the sections (can't remember which... I'll have to see if I can dig up my last smog check papers, unless someone here wants to say a few sections and see if it jogs my memory)

So, I think the silencer will be coming out rather soon, and a K&N will follow when my next paycheck comes. Thanks, all!

Looked into a J-Mod yet for your auto. They sell them at VAPAuto, i have heard a lot of good stuff from people that get that.

Maybe also try some subframe connectors. I am waiting on my MM full length from american muscle, and i will tell you what they are like when i get them installed.

...And the list grows...

Something just occurred to me... could I, for my intake, remove the filter from the box, cut the silencer back enough to achieve a certain diameter, and use a hose-clamp to affix an air-filter to the end of what's left of the silencer? Sort of like a poor-man's CAI... Use all the stock stuff and just clamp the filter to the end of it instead of sitting in the middle.
One could even cut the wide, flat, foam "O" from a standard paper air filter and put it where it would normally go, to minimize air leak.
Would this give any difference whatsoever than a silencer delete, with a K&N filter in the box?

i would just do the silencer delete.

some friends tried what you just said, and they ended up having their filter constantly fall off

Ah, that wouldn't be good. Alright. I just did the delete anyways, incredibly easy. I thought I was going to have to cut it... I didn't remember it being a separate piece. Twas a delightful surprise when it just popped right out.

Another idea (someone's probably tried this one too, and it's gonna be a failure as well). not only delete the silencer, but the entire airbox, and invent some way to affix the filter to the intake. Sounds like you'd have one of those engine-bay CAIs... only problem is inventing the way to keep the filter there...

Or am I overthinking this, and there is no effective difference between a that style intake and the silencer delete?

Maybe I'll just stop trying to invent new ways to do stuff a cheap way. If it works, chances are, it's been done before. If it ain't around, chances are it doesn't work.

Personally id save up, and start with exhaust. Everyone failed to mention you wont feel much from a canned(mail order) tune on an otherwise stock car...much like you wont feel much from anmy of the afore mentioned mods by itself, minus the gears and tlok,
