Talking Need Help

I recently bought my 16 year old daughter a 1999 mustang coupe for her birthday. The car is in excellent shape with low miles. Last night she calls me from a friends house and tell me that when she was leaving to come home, her friend saw some sparks come from the front of the car and she also noticed some under the dash by the fuse box. The car will still crank but she was unable to get it to go in gear. Also her remote key entry system would not work.
I am going to look at it this afternnoon and either fix it or bring it home on my trailer. I do not have much experience with Ford products but am reasonably knowlegeable about vehicles. I was wondering is someone could tell me if this sounds like something underneath the hood grounded out and maybe blew the fusible link and the fusebox fuse, which activated the security system causing the mustang to not go in gear. Thanks in advance for any advice or input.

I am getting ready to leave right now to go and look at it. After I look at it if I can't find the problem, I will give you a call. It is getting dark here earlier and I need to go now while I still have daylight left. Thanks

I got it fixed. It turns out that some of her friends decided to play a joke on her and unhook a spark plug wire. I guess it shorted out something because I had to replace one of the 40 amp fused under the hood and unhook the positive battery cable to reset the computer. After I did this things started working again and I drove it home without any problems. Thanks again for your offer of help haystackstang. Needless to say I don't think those guys will be tinkering under the hood of my daughter's car again.

Wow, good way to break an expensive part. I'd be ticked!
