sorry if this is stupid, but what do you mean by look at the diff to see what came in it?

Just plain wrong in this case. Who went from 2.73 to 4.10 in an auto? The stock ratio in late model V6's isn't 2.73, it's 3.27, and after changing my wife's auto V6 to 4.10s the rpms don't reach 3K while cruising until about 80 mph. Mine doesn't reach 3K rpms with 4.10s while cruising in 5th gear until about 90 mph. That's very acceptable for daily drivers in my opinion, which is how our vehicles are used. While you have seen a mileage drop, we have not to any noticeable degree. Opinions and experiences after gear changes are bound to vary though, and yours is just as good as mine.

I dont agree. I have 3.73's and my milaege just plain sucks!!! Had to loose at least 5 mpg. You will notice a difference. And from a 2.73 to 4.10 on an auto are you kidding me? You will be at like 3K rpm on the highway. Can we say "suck down gas".
And I wouldnt put 4.10 in a car unless you have a ton of power. You will have no power on top. I would go 3.55 with the auto and 3.73 with the 5 speed.

Gas mileage decrease with 4.10s is overblown. I have them on my 5spd Mach 1 and so does my wife on her auto V6 and we have not noticed a significant decrease in mileage, even on long trips.

You can look on the tag on your diff to see what came in it. Even post the numbers and someone can decipher it for you. As far as increased acceleration, yeah 4.10's are better, but you'll have a lower top speed and eat gas even worse. Best bet is to see what you have and decide from there.

Woooooo......excuse me!!! Not that familiar with a V6 auto. But I have had several cars with gear changes, 5 speeds, autos you name it. All got worse milaege, especially the auto.
Guess your the only one that can defi the laws of physics.
with 4.10s on a 99 auto v6 you will be at 2600 at 70mph. stock is 2200. so highway speeds reduce mgp, but not significantly. city speeds will increase mpg b/c you will be in the bottom of 3rd gear at 45 instead of top of 2nd....

well thats wrong info. If your going 45 the tranny will be in 4th gear, it wont be in second. The tranny should shift into 4th at around 40 or so. with stock gearing.

Read again, that I stated there has not been a significant drop in gas mileage after changing to 4.10s in my 5 spd or the auto V6. That's from personal experience, not what I've "heard" or "read about". If better gas mileage is the goal, by a Honda in the first place and not a Mustang.

And if I want better gas mileage I pull the C6 out of the garage. [sm=closed.gif]
