Default Help! Serious Knocking

Hey All

Had a serious knock develop at about 55,000 miles.
The car is a 2000 with the 3.8L V6.

When the engine heats up it has a serious knock. Will knock under ANY load and continuously.
The cylinder closest to the firewall on the passenger side seems to be the issue. Pulled the plug and the plug was corroded/carbon filled and the wire was cooked ... running far too hot.
I changed the wires and plugs and it stopped the problem for a few hundred miles and is now back.

Has anyone had this problem? What might cause this? Injector gone bad?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Is it knocking, tapping or pinging? Knocking comes from the bottom end, pinging and tapping comes from the top end.

It's a serious pinging then...
Pre-detination by the sounds of it.

OK, so you'r getting detonation, is anything done to the car at all or is it all stock?

Nothing's been done to the motor. Bone stock. So not sure why.

your car is a 2000 which had serious PCV issues. the poor oil baffles in the valve covers allowed the PCV to suck up too much oil into the intake which causes heavy spark knock.

you need to upgrade to either 98 valve covers or the late 01 and up covers. you can find the upgraded cover kit on ebay. just look for windstar valvecover.

next you need to change the spark plugs after you run seafoam through the PCV line to clean out the oil/carbon deposits in your intake and intake valves. these things will cure your problem

here ya go

Thanks for the advice.
I don't know very much about these motors unfortunately.
Hopefully will solve the problem and luckily is a pretty cheap fix.

they are great motors. the fix is pretty cheap. alot of guy's just delete the breather and PCV but it's not emissions legal in the US to do so and probably not in canada either

best to just get a set of 98 valvecovers from a junkyard wrecked car or the upgraded cover in the ebay link i provided. like i said run 1/3 can of seafoam through the PCV line into the intake and shut the engine off and let it sit for 10-15 min. go back and start the car back up. it will smoke like a diesel on a sub zero winter day for a few minutes. that's the oil/carbon deposits being burned off. it would be a good idea to do it a couple of times before you change the spark plugs for fresh autolite double platinum APP 764 plugs
