Default Rear End help!!!

Hi all,

I have a 98' v6 mustang and I need some helping with a decision. I've noticed that my rear end makes a whole lot of noise (humming sound) when im going over 40mph, and it gets super loud when over 75mph. I lifted the car from the rear and mounted it on two towers to run the drivetrain under no load to get under and listen more carefully. I came to the conclustion that it may be the bearings are all worn out. Please let me state that the stang has 211k miles on it, so i think the rear end is worn out without a doubt!!! I needed some help as to which fix would be easiest. would it be better to buy the whole new bearing kit and go through the whole shimming process, or should I just go to a junk yard and buy a good low milage rear end from another sn95 stang??? Both options will cost me the same in terms of parts and labor. I have been given an estimate of $150 for parts and labor for both options. Which is better??? Any help is appriciated.

I would also like to state that the labor is very cheap because my mechanic is my cousin, and I usually help him do the job. This is why minimizing the mechanical labor is important to me

Thanks

+1 on that. a newer rear end could have the same issues as yours now, or youll get lucky and it wont happen right away. then you still gotta do it

Well, I dont plan to keep her very long. I will pass her on to my dad, since she is in way better shape than my dads stang. He has a 1980 LX that is still running, but falling apart, lol. Im kinda surprised she has lived up 211k miles. Screw all them people who say fords are a peace of crap. Ford RULZ!!!

pinion bearing. lucky yours isnt to the point where it clunks when your going under like 3 mph yet! happened to me, good excuse to get my 3.73s. you just need to get the new bearings, idk about a new crush sleeve and races or whatever if you are not changing the gears. anyone?
