Default Mustangs Suck!!

Just kidding. Not all Mustangs suck, just mine. I have posted elsewhere to no avail. Does anyone know the maximum tolerance for main and rod bearings? Mine are at .004 and .005 respectively and that is an issue. The engine knocks at an idle, so I pulled it in hopes that the bearings were noticeably bad, but they seem good. Any other ideas?

I hd a stethescope on the pan and it was louder at the back of the pan, but that doesn't mean anything.

your clearance is fine. the problem is probably your valvecovers. 99-early 01 had poor oil baffles in the valve covers which led to too much oil being sucked up into the intake via the PCV. it's an easy fix through a couple of ways.

1. use a set of 98 valve covers or the 01+ upgraded covers. you can find them on EBAY for about $80 but you only get 1 cover, the PCV side.

2. do a PCV and breather delete and run breathers on both and plug the lines in the intake tract for them.

3. add an oil catch by using a pitcock valve between your your PCV and intake.

#1 is the best option

you will need to seafoam the engine. the excess oil causes heavy spark knock which sounds like a rod knock when it gets real bad. the oil solidifies on the intake valves especially on #6 and #3 and wets the plugs which combines for a knocking engine. seafoam it real good 2 or 3 times and use the 98 valve covers and you will be good to go

Thanks. I do appreciate the knowledge, but, ahem, WHERE THE HELL WERE YA BEFORE I PULLED A MOTOR AND TRANSMISSION?? Just kidding. I figure that I can do option #1, as it is out of the car, and I can look it over real well. Thanks again.
I have pulled all the plugs, and lone behold, the rear two plugs are really oily. I believe that this could seriously have been the issue.

BTW Moderators, why isn't something like this posted as a sticky? This is something that could go on a post with all the little things, that are typically asked.

it should be a sticky as it is a very bad problem with 99/01 cars. the fix is easy but most think it is a major rod knock or something else worse than what it really is

I agree this should be a sticky, but this a known issue(read about it somewhere, can't remember at the moment), and I don't even own a new edge. Try to do a bit more research before you start tearing stuff down, in a big way, you have internet, obviously, GOOGLE is your friend. And Mustangs don't suck BTW, I drove my 95 for 2 months with a cracked head, put some block seal in it, fixed, back to normal(runner stronger than ever), the damn thing won't die, GO 3.8. I've been inspired by the 3.8 and have decided to do an m90 swap. I was going to go split port, but I like the idea of the blower being under the stock hood for the sleeper look. I like my privacy!! :P

I don't think Mustangs suck. I just wanted lots o peoples to read my thread!

I did do research, and then I asked on a handful of forums and it wasn't until I was asking on this thread for bearing tolerances that I received the answer that I was looking for. Thanks cobra232!

What do you mean by " and I don't even own a new edge"?
