Default misfire problems

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In the process of testing and just doing preventitive maintenence.

So the other day I decided to just give a check up on the rings. Did a compression test on a slightly warm, basically cold motor. All dry tested, yeilding 151-160ish overall. Nothing extrememly different from the others. The car has 90k on it, and I changed the spark plugs and wires about 10k ago.

As i put everything back together, It threw a check engine light, realized i didnt snap a boot on hard enough, drove to school 40miles away the next day, on the way back stopping by a store, i got off the freeway to notice a misfire.

A consistant misfire anywhere from 1000 to 2000 rpms roughly And only when i put a load on the engine. I could be crusing at those rpms, if I keep the load every minimal it doesnt misfire.

The only thing ive taken off was the plugs and wires being around this time, well and unplugged the inertia switch and connector to the coil. I dont know what else it could be.

Misfire only under load at 1-2k rpms..

Autolite ap765's is what I used, I ended up replacing #1 sparkplug because i cracked it when i didnt notice my socket wasnt all the way on. I replaced that with a ap105 which is autolites replacement for the 765s.

Coil maybe?

Doubt it, check your connections on the spark plug wires, one might not be clicked in all the way.

but ive disconnected and reconnected every single one over and over and no luck.

wires all have resistance. shorter wires were about 9ohms and as i got to the longer wires about 11ohms. one wire looked as if it kinda touched a small hard line comming off the header, could see marks from rubbing on it, but it never went all the way through the rubber. I still have doubts of that wire, but why would i notice the misfire after putting it back in, i didnt have the misfire to begin with. the only thing different in the system is 1 or 2 plugs newer than the other 4.

im about to just throw new plugs and wires all the way around..

If I ever change plugs I change them all.

Get the other 4 plugs and see if it happens still.

It it does then like Ryan said, recheck all your wires.

Also gets some conductor lube or whatever it is. Autozone sells little $.99 cent packs of it.

Good luck tracking it down.

We had an issue similar to what you're experiencing. It ended up being the center wire on the passenger side. It was touching that hard line from the exhaust. It hadn't burnt all the way through, only just enough to get a little arc. Replaced the wires and it seems to have corrected it. I went out to the junkyard and bought some of the heat resistant wire covers and that seems to have help protect the new wires.

I'd go ahead and replace the last remaining plugs, just in case, also check your gap on all of them.
