Default Engine Upgrade

I finally blew my engine yesterday. So now I want to replace it with the newer, '01+, split port 3.8. I know I will need to mod my fuel rail and I think there's someone local that can help with that. MPS offered to add the wiring harness and computer for a little extra. Is there anything else I need to be lookin at?

Those are the major things you need to cover.

Alright. I did a bunch of forum searching yesterday. Found out that I will be better off changing the lower intake with a 99-00 intake so I won't have to delete the IMRC's. Although, if I understand it right, I will still have to make a space for at least one of the two temp sensors. Couple of things I'm still lookin at:

Do I have to change the computer or is changing the wiring harness sufficient?

How about the EGR? Replum or delete?

And aren't the headers I have now better? If I change em with the engine is it simpler and will they bolt up?

Probably goin with a CAI this time. Any suggestions?

Thanks everyone for your help. There dosen't seem to be any point in doing anything but upgrading here. And it seems like the cost isn't but a little more, given that I would want to replace the head gaskets and do a bit of work to it anyways if I went back with the same engine.

I think that you would need the computer or at least a tune..as for the egr just reuse it unless you have a tuner with a tune to delete the egr..get a cheap ebay CAI..the headers will be a direct bolt on and would be easier to do while the engines where out the car.

Well I spoke with a specialist this morning about the install... well to make a long story short I'm goin to the V8. Already purchased a kit complete kit from MPS. Cost about the same. Thanks for all your help.

My swap so far is going great. I am about half way, but the tough half is done. I finished pulling the engine, transmission, and exhaust yesterday. Got the old fuel tank out. I also picked up all my parts yesterday and have almost everything I need in my garage. So things are lookin positive. Installing is usually easier than removing. I will post pics later when I'm finished.
