Default Brake leak

So when i was changing the brake pads and rotors on my wifes 04 impala ss(fast car btw) i let the driver side caliber fall down. the reason it fell is because i let it sit on the frame and when i took the last bolt off it went down. now it leaks do i need to replace the hose?

Depends on where the leak is coming from. If its coming from the caliper itself, then you might need to do a rebuild of the caliper (not too hard). If its coming from the connection to the caliper, then you could try tightening it down to the factory spec and see if that helps. You might have loosened it when it fell. If it doesn't, then disconnect it completely and replace the copper washer/gaskets in the connection. If its the fitting itself, then you'll have to replace the fitting at least. If the fitting is attached/crimped to the brake line, then you'll need to replace the line and fitting together. If the leak is coming from somewhere in the hose, then yes, you'll need to replace the hose. There are no reliable and long term methods to patch a brake line. At least not one I would trust. Swapping out the hose is fairly simple and shouldn't take more then an hour or two (including bleeding the brakes afterwards and a beer or two).

If you have to replace the brake line I'd recommend, while your at it, upgrading all the other flexible brake lines with braided brake lines while your at it. Only adds another hour to the job. I prefer Goodridge lines and fittings (http://www.goodridge.net/).

Good luck...

P.S. next time tie the caliper to the frame with dungy cord or rope so this doesn't happen again. :-)
