3.8 -> 4.6 build thread
Looks like a fun project. I also would like to see the final bill for it all.
Now this next part isnt really directed at you guys since you already started your project but for others who want to do the same thing it might be some helpful info.
I always suggest just buying an entire donor car though.
You have everything you need (Unless damaged) so you dont have to make a lot of runs. Sometimes they still drive when you get them too (Like our Cobra donor) so that you can inspect the suspension parts with a little testing.
Up in Kansas City there is a mild front collision 01' GT with 30,000 miles, a 5spd and all other options, black on charcoal leather for $4k obo or trades for other cars or things of value.
You take what you need and sell off the rest so that you can make some of your money back and depending on what you already have you could stand a chance to make all of the money back. Great seats and body parts sell very well.
The rolled 01' Cobra we bought was only $3500 and it came with everything we need to convert her 96' sixxer. It also has a new OE crate motor with 1500 miles and a 3yr 75k Ford warrenty which was $4600 in itself.
Waiting around for a whole parts can really pays off as long as you dont overpay.
Cant wait to see more pictures from the project.

^^ I've been looking within the state for wrecked gt's since fall and was never able to find one under 5, even when they're completely smashed. I dunno what those people think they've got lol. but I agree it would of been SO much easier and most likely cheaper. The cost so far is 1600, and will be spending another estimated 1500 for the rest of the parts. however some of that cost is add ons, like I'm pretty sure the owner of the car is buying a new clutch/flywheel, alum d/s, and longtubes. all of which aren't needed for the swap and can be found much cheaper but while it's apart might as well throw it all on now.
he's got it all planned out in stages, bolt ons this summer, then next winter it'll get some kind of forced induction. Then after a summer with that the engine will get pulled and rebuilt to handle boost along with hopefully those heads and blower cams. The owner wants to get heads/cams now while it's out but he just doesnt have the funds for it atm.
