Quick Stang Question
Hey guys. I'm new to the site, but not the sport, nor the pony. Just have a quick question, and have been looking to register for quite awhile now.
Anyhow, to the point...
I've got this race coming up, and we're taking off all of our upgrades, even chips, and going to do a few quarter / half mile runs. This dude's been talking a ton of smack since we starting mentioning it, and wants in. He's putting up his new '19s that his 08 v6 can trash my 04 v6. Now, i've done my research, but does that little ponypower make that much difference?
And, if you wanna give me any quick stock racing tips... I figured i'd just knock out my overdrive, run the AC on high for a bit to get it out of fuel efficient mode, keep my windows up, keep the wheels spinning / rolling revs at about 3k RPM, and run it from there.
Oh, and speaking of that, we roll automatics. Most say racing with em is stupid, but it gets the job done in my parts.
Thanks for the help,
~TeKo~

Where are you located? A/C won't change anything to a "fuel efficiant mode," that doesn't even exist, you're supposed to run with the A/C off anyway. Being a stock automatic, it's not gonna do anything impressive.
Where are you gonna do a half mile run? SCD and No Problem have 1/4 mile, nobody has a half mile unless you try to run at Belle Chasse I guess.
He'll win stock for stock, unless he sucks at driving an auto...

Hm... I was raised to run the ac for 15 seconds before every race. But then again I might be wrong. Also, I'm on the northshore. We have a small offroad that one of our families owns. It's at least 3 miles. A lot like the trace.
And yeah... That's what I figured. Gheyy.
Thanks for the reply anyway,

I havnt met a S197 V6 that could beat the 96' yet but it has its fair share of mods.
My 01' auto is slow as a$$ though, it would lose for sure as it takes about 5 minutes to figure out it wants to go after it shoots the RPM's to the moon.
Get a J-mod valve body, aluminum driveshaft, 4.10 gears w/locker and a tuner and race him that way, he will never know. Then you should stand a fair chance with a proper shifting trans and a little more power to the wheels.

what mods are we talking about that your taking off? must not be anything major, thats a waste of time and energy. so im guessing your car still runs at least 16 second quarter miles. and yes, the 4.0 will beat the 3.8 even with the heavier car stock for stock. and even with mods, the 4.0 responds better to them than the 3.8 also. and i also hope the 19s are not ghetto style. your better of not racing and letting him keep them if thats the case
