Default New Dash

My brother got an 02 New edge a couple months ago - he loves it. But he has a problem (not just with Mustangs, but lots of cars) with being able to see the dash and how fast he is going and what not. He's color blind pretty bad, lots of people think that color bilnd means you can't see colors, but in his case he can see colors but lots of colors blend in with eachother. His worse colors just so happen to be Red and Green - the color of our dashes! That's not to say he can't tell how fast he's going - but it is harder for him. At first when he drove my car I thought he was BS'ing me when he asked how fast he was going - but then we played some game like bean bags or something and he was red bean bag and when he threw them in the grass (missed the board) he couldn't find them lol.

Anyways I'm wondering how much a dash with different colors would cost for him so he could maybe have blue and red or something that he can actually tell the difference between better. Also how much would it cost to install (or is it a DIY easy install?)

Thanks

I dont know if the mustangs cluster is the like 04-08 f150's but I think you could just change the bulbs to different color LED's that he could see. It would be a cheaper route than buying reverse glow or a different cluster all together.

He could just install an aftermarket tach and learn what each rpm in each gear is.

Dude, I'm severely color blind. The best gauges I've ever used are the Autometer NV or Lunar. Autometer used to make a Lunar cluster to replace the stocker. It's out of production, and not cheap, but for me it was a life saver and well worth the money. It was easy to install too, WAAAAY easier than a new gauge face.

DO NOT GET A REVERSE GLOW, that only makes things worse. If he's on a budget, then in the mean time he can get some paint that contrast well for him and paint the tips of his needles and mark his main mph sections, like 25, 45, 60, and 70.

Hey thats not a bad idea. Any idea on how to go about painting the tips of those needles blue or something? I think if it were blue it would be better for him, at least for now. I'd hate for him to think he's going 30 and actually be doing 40 or something and get pulled over for that. I think Blue / Green would go well for him.

I'm actually very lucky I'm not color blind, my grandpa is colorblind, and my only two brothers are both colorblind.

I'm colorblind in all spectrums, so it's hard for me to say what will work for him. I'd recommend white or yellow, since in my case, they stand out very well against darker colors.

red and green color blindness is common in all guys. I am slightly but only on certain reds so far. Best thing sounds like what ryan said, just remove the gauge cluster. Here is a little how to for taking the cluster out..

Colorblindness is common in guys because only guys can have it. It's EXTREMELY rare in women, as they are carriers of the dominant trait, but it remains recessive in the XX, as opposed to the XY chromosomes.
