the light should turn off if you disconnect the battery for like 10 minutes. why not go to autozone or similar store and get the code so you can figure out what the problem is?
It has something to do with the emissions system, can be as simple as a gas cap not on tight enough or needing to be replaced, to the catalytic converters needing to be replaced!

more than just the emissions system, it covers any and all the senors on the engine and drive train. just head to autozone and have them scan it, takes all of 2 minutes and it's free
Not to mention your resetting your ECU by pulling off the battery. Not worth it.
The CEL is going to illuminate in no time if you havent fixed the problem.
I can't help but don't get me started on check engine lights. Had an 85 Trans-Am and the CEL stayed on for 8 years. 5 shops and 4 months of total work and not one could fix it. Gave up on it. Got used to it. I think in the end it was an intermittent O2 sensor fail.
Then my next car a 98 Contour had the CEL come on. It stayed on for 6 years. Lol. I'm just praying the one on the stang never comes on. If so I'm ripping it out
