Default Redlining?

Today I was racing some guy in a late 90's Aurora (I think...it was pretty fast), but my car went all the way past 5K rpm right in the front of the red and never shifted...d@mn automatic. But anyway, what happens if you redline too much...or just once. I know it's not "good" but what really happens?

If you do it to much, like everytime you drive it through every gear, then you definetly gonna put some hurt on the motor but if its only once in a while its not gonna hurt the car at all. And if in a race and i goes past redline then your gonna slow down. Dont know which one you really wanted but theres both of them.

Well I had my chip set my shift points pretty high because I found the V6's love the high rpm ranges. Just run synthetic oil and change it every 3 to 5k and your engine will last for a long time. My V6 loves it between 4k to 6k rpm, so that's where I try to keep it when I'm racing around.
