So my friend has a '01 3.8L. When she starts the car, everything sounds fine; however, when she presses the throttle the car revs but BARELY builds up speed. It starts to make a noise that gets louder when she presses the throttle more.

Any ideas?

I don't know the noise. I haven't taken a look at the car. This is just the description she gave me.

No check engine light.

The tow-truck driver said that it's probably the transmission. Thats all the info i have.

I would go check it out to give a better description to you guys, but I am not able to.

Only thing i can think of is the trans to if the engines
building the power, but its not getting to the wheels. Its anything
in between from the flex plate (auto FTW) to the torque converter,
diffrential and so on. Drivetrain problem. Not to mention with my pos
supra i would have the pedal floored and be barely moving because the
shift solenoids were handicapped and id be in 3rd gear at 20km.
Check if the O/D is blinking if this is a auto trans.
