Mac Performance Cat Backs
I’ve always loved mustangs and finally got one. Now I don’t know much about cars, just the basics. When it comes to performing mods were I am lost. I have installed CAI’s because it’s fairly easy. I wan’t to continue doing my own mods and saving the money. But I am lost with exhaust systems. I’ve been looking at the Mack Performance Cat Backs and there at a good price, and they look like they go connected to the cats with nothing else needed. Where I am lost is with all this Y’s and H’s. The Mac Performance Cat Backs I have seen don’t come with neither. I have a 2002 Mustang V6, the exhaust from the manifolds back I notice that the exhaust comes out from both sides down with separate pipes to the cats down to the 2 mufflers then after the mufflers they go to a y pipe to one pipe and out to the rear.
Now my question is, when installing the Mac Performance Cat Backs is necessary to have the Y or the H pipe or can I just install it to the cats down to the rear with installing the Y pipe and H pipes?
Thanks

The Y pipe is standard on v6 while a h pipe is standard on a GT. The difference btween the two is that the H pipe is used for dual exhaust while the y pipe is used for single pipe exhaust.
H pipe: Dual
Y pipe: Single
soooo..... if your installing dual Mac's you'll need to by a conversion kit and or have a shop make you a custom mid pipe. Either or will work. But regaurdless it'll be a version of the GT mid pipe (x pipe, H pipe, or custom).
Hope this helps

I never understood what the H and Y pipe was but I also bought a MAC cat back. The mechanic at the exhaust shop said that they were going to convert the exhaust to a "true duels" setup...not sure if thats an H pipe or a Y pipe...
OP, you dont need any type of midpipe, usually someone picks a midpipe (or no midpipe) to achieve a certain sound. if you have the cash, id suggest going with MAC longtube headers so you can get it all out of the way in one sweep
We seriously need to revise the stickies. One with the longtube and dual options, maybe an update on the windstar swap, all these questions asked all the time, there isn't one brake or suspension sticky to my knowledge. Ryan can we do something about this?
