Horrendous gas mileage
Ok I know there's probably a million of these threads floating around, but how the hell do people get 24 mpg in their V6? I calculated my mileage on my last tank and didn't even get 13. I live in NYC and sit in traffic on a highway 5 days a week for about 20 minutes a day. My car is daily driven and mostly all city mileage... However, I've tried to tone down my right foot a bit, but my gas mileage doesn't see a change... I read that some people talk about having a heavy foot and still get 20+ mpg... I didn't even get 200 miles on my last tank, my low fuel light popped up at around 175 miles... I have a K & N CAI and cleaned it maybe 2 months ago... Other than that, the only other engine work I have are new exhaust manifolds that I got put on last fall... Any guesses on how I can get better fuel mileage? Fuel filter? HELP! LOL thanks guys.
My recently inherited V6 has a similar issue. It's a 2000 V6 convertible and is getting horrible MPG my Cobra is running circles around that car MPG wise. I drove it nearly all highway and it's getting around 20 MPG. Spark plugs, wires, and coil is all new. No idea what is causing the issue. At one point it was getting 24-27 and then boom this. It's bad when I have to drive the Cobra to get decent MPG, good news is it racks up 22-26 mpg during the winter depending on how I drive it. In short I'm thinking the problem with my sixer may be a problem with the fuel lines, tank, or pump, just no way it can be using that much gas and not put out the smell of running rich. I think I have a minor gas leak somewhere but can't find it.
I've also been getting terrible mileage. Like ~20 miles per 1/4 tank. I don't understand it, it's mostly suburban driving, changed the fuel filter, don't get on it a lot etc. But yet people with V8s are getting 30 mpg... Must be an issue somewhere
