1983 3.8 mods ?
I know this year is out of range for this forum, however I can't find a better area to post my question.
I wanted to know what mods are available for 1983 3.8 Mustang. It's currently bone stock with a 2 bbl carburator, but in very nice shape with just over 84k miles.
I would like to add a bit more power, especially at low end.If this turns out to be impractical or too expensive, I suppose my next step would be to find a 5.0 donor car.
Thanks! David

Whelp Super Six Motorsports is a good place to go if your wanting to build a carbed sixxer.
Cost wise though, a GT Donor car would be cheaper but less unique.
What kind of budget and expectations do you have?

A lot of the bottom end is the same as the newer style 3.8L cars. The only real difference is the heads (not set up for fuel injection) and the lower intake/carb instead of the lower/upper intake feeding from a throttle body.
Super Six sells a ported version of the intake and can set you up with a better carb. But if you are doing the work anyway, any shop can port your current heads and intake to help set up the power.
Match a cam to it and you'll improve it even more. The cam specs are something we can help you with once you give us a bit more detail about how much power you want and a general budget.
The rest will be more or less the same as the other fox body and SN95 cars. Many things that work will range from 1979 all the way up to 2004. Springs, shocks, struts, big brake kits, rear end gears, wheels etc....

Thanks for your replies, gentlemen. As far as budget goes, I don;t have a great deal of money to spend. I've being searching locally for a GT donor car, but most are around $1000 even in poor shape. I'll check out the super six folks.
If I go the V8 route, is this a bolt in project, or are there structural differences between the V6 and V8 bodies? I would also like to swap my automatic for a 5-speed, but that would entail a rear axle chnage to get the correct ratio, I would think.
