Default Old Engine

Ok, so my '94 has 203k miles on it. Still runs perfect, oil is nowhere near black when I change the oil. I bought a new DD in August so my baby has now become a project car.

I've already started putting money into the car but not into the engine (sway bars and soon to be exhaust). Since the engine has so many miles on it is it worth modding the engine at all or just upgrade other stuff and wait until the engine goes out and replace it?

sounds like the engine is in good shape to me. depends on what mods you are planning on doing to it id say.

I hadn't put too much thought into the engine itself yet due to it being old. I was thinking of eventually supercharging it (M90? M112?) I do want to get performance plugs/wires, gears, short throw, along with some other things as far as the rest of the car. Just some fun things to play around with during the summer. Maybe take AC out to reduce weight, I never use it anyway.

If you wait on the engine to go you may wait a long time. These power plants are some of the best i've seen. My 01 has over 130k miles and has zero leaks or anything. Im very impressed. I could not say the same for the GM cars I've owned over the years. Not even my ol Toyota.

Very true. I'm actually excited to see how far she'll go and am pretty impressed with how little I've had to repair it (only major repair was a head gasket) Seeing as the oil staying as clean as it is and also becoming a project car instead of a daily driver, I might start putting some work in the engine too

Put it this way, the more you modify a car, the shorter the engines life. That's a pretty good rule of thumb for any car.

You could do a short throw, gears, exhaust, brakes (because they will be needed as some point), suspension (springs, control arms, sway bars), rims, ect before you touch the engine. All those things will allow you to drive the car while still waiting for the engine to burn itself out.

Thanks guys, I think I'm going to keep doing what I've been thinking all along and do other upgrades and see if the engine goes out in the time it takes me to do that.

Thinking down the road, what are some good engines to swap in? I would like to keep it a V6. I know that these engines are still extremely new but has anyone done a swap with the new 305HP mustang V6?

If your talking about the 3.7 - not that I have seen into an older SN95 model. You could always pull a SuperCoupe 3.8 SC'd engine and drop that into it. You keep the V6, but get a supercharger and forged internals.

+1 to the sc swap, and you have like a quarter of the miles that one member has on his 3.8
