Crank Pulley bolt size & thread 3.8L 98
2 of the crank pulley bolts backed out, which broke the crank pulley and destroyed 3 of the bolts. I bought a new dampener but I need to know what the 4 bolts are, size and thread, The pieces still in the old Balancer are stuck , so I can't back them out and measure the thread pitch or size, I suspect they are metric. I can't find a reference anywhere, on the net, and this time they will be locktited.
Please Help, Thanks Sys

Truth is strange than fiction, I found out the answer, by going to pick-your-part, and finding the pulleys on a 94. both the water pump and crank pulley bolts use a 1/2" socket to remove, so they are not metric heads, and here is the kicker, the threads in the crank pulley bolts are metric, M8 x 1.25. 1.25mm threads are very close to 20/inch, in fact its 20.32/inch, but the bolt was bigger than 1/4", so it had to be metric. So don't be fooled by your thread gauge, when 20/inch seem to fit a possibly metric bolt. use a caliper to measure the bolt diameter, to confirm your suspicions. the bolt out of the junkyard was .310, which is smaller than 5/16's, but larger than 1/4"
I didn't check the water pump bolt, as I have 2 sets now, and should never need more than 1
The reason I still needed to know the crank threads, is the "inexpensive" balancer replacement threads wouldn't let the junkyard/stock bolts bottom out so I wanted to chase the threads, and I needed to know if the set I bought, had the right tap in it, bought a cheap set from HF, to use as chasers, or for threading AL, or plastic, not for new threads in steel.
Hope this helps someone else Sys
