how can you tell if you have a 3.8 or 3.9l v6
I heard they are the same exterally so how can you tell? I have a 2004 mustang.

I thought 3.9 was offered in 04 but not all 04's were 3.9 you could still get the 3.8...from what I was told.

That could be true... why does OP care what engine he has? There is no difference between what performance parts you can install on the 3.9 vs the 3.8 engine.
Is there no sticker on the top of the fan shroud that says 3.9 or 3.8?

it just says v6 lol. and i heard that you need special parts for a 3.9 like a cam would be hard to find

are the parts different? Are cams, pistons, and heads harder to find or are the universal to the 3.8

I think they 3.8 stuff will fit on the 3.9 not positive though.

I have a 3.9 I don't know what is so special about it but it works for me you'd have to look on the sticker near the firewall on the driver side
