My 1999 V6 Mustang needs among other things the flywheel replaced and the mechanic quoted me a price of $250 or so for the flywheel, over the phone, and that it would take 10 days for the shop to receive it as it is a "vintage" part. While speaking to him I did a search online and found one for under $100 shipped and asked him if I could email him the link. After his review of the part online he said he was unsure of it because sometimes when he calls a dealer rergarding a part the dealer will ask for the VIN (among other things)... I feel like I might be getting messed around here. Is a flywheel for a 1999 Mustang not a flywheel for a 1999 Mustang?

dealer is obviously going to charge you more, they need to make money to stay in buisness. was that installed

 

Rockauto has them for $58. Amazon has it for $44, Autozone has it for $110. Find another mechanic, this one is either a moron or a liar. And this "vintage" part fits vehicles up to 2010.

 

I just got a reply from him after sending him that link. He said that flywheel is not going to work.
Something fishy here?

He is trying to screw you over, let him know and be SURE to leave a review for him on Google so other people know he is trying to charge $200 ontop of what the part really costs.

I can't view the link but go buy a flywheel from somewhere and bring it to a shop that offers the best price to be installed you will save a lot of money and headache that way. I bought my flywheel for my 5.0 on ebay and its darn good quality. It is two steps up from stock but definitely not bad. But as stated autozone as well as other places sell that flywheel. And there isn't much special about it as it was used for years.
