A bit frustrated
About a week ago on the way home the car ran out of gas, I coasted as far as I could and sat for a minute. I was only a mile from the gas station it turned back over and I filled it up. Ever since then I seem to have trouble with the car. It will run fine one minute and then it seems like its not getting gas and will die out. When i go to start it back up it will turn over but not start if I let it sit for a few minutes it starts back up fine and will run for a bit or just a minute. Since this started I have changed the fuel filter, fuel pump module (was cheaper to buy the whole module then just the pump), and crank sensor, it ran fine for a few days about 200 miles and today i pulled up turned the car off and it would not start back up I let it sit for about an hour and it started back up made it to my house. I have checked the fuel button in the trunk thats fine, all the fuses are good. Not sure where to go next, any thoughts on what I need to do?
Yes I have tried to prime it, what has me lost is after changing out the pump, filter and sensor it ran fine for a bit (maybe 200 miles) and I drove it all this morning made it to the neighbors house and when I shut it off it would turn over but would not start up, I waited about an hour went and tried and it started up like nothing is wrong. This is how it was b4 I changed everything as well. It would run for a minute die out and I would have to wait then try to start it back up again would run for a minute and die out like it was out of gas. I got the car back in my yard but a bit scared to go drivin I dont want to be stuck on the side of the road in this heat. Think I might let it idle for a bit and see what happens.. any other ideas
Heya, Welcome to MF and sorry to hear about your trouble.
If the fuel filter had not been serviced regularly before changing it you could have had a compromised filter and sucked something up and now its banging around in your fuel line, fuel rail or up against one of the injector heads.
Another thing, they suggested to prime the system but did you try purging it at the fuel rail?
There is a little black cap on the pass side of the fuel rail, under that is valve stem looking object, that is called a Schrader valve.
With the system primed and a rag under the fuel rail, quickly press and release the valve inside with something like a small screwdriver.
This will purge the fuel rail of air with the system under pressure, you may have to do this a couple times. Just turn the key to off and re-prime the system and repeat.
BE CAREFUL NOT TO HAVE AN OPEN FLAME OR SPARKS ANYWHERE!
WEAR EYE PROTECTION TOO! The fuel is now pressurized to AT LEAST 38psi.
You only have a little volume in the fuel rail though so the pressure releases quickly, just a quick tap of the Schrader valve and you will have to re-prime the system otherwise your just letting air back in.
Good luck.
