Default Miss Fire

Working on a 1995 3.8 with a miss fire on #3 cyl. I replace the plugs, wires, coils, and fuel filter and its still there its actuauly missing on #5 and #2 and #4 cyl. also but goes away at higher rpm's but I'm sure #3 keeps missing I can feel it but it doesnt show it is on the scanner. I've read somewhere that a bad alt. can cause this has anyone else heard that. The battery let just came one but its still charging good. This is begining to **** me off.

Ok I figered out how to edit. Anyway the fuel pressure is at 25lbs at idle and if I unplug the vacume from the regulator it goes to 35lbs witch is in spec. there's no lean codes anyway.

What are the actual codes you are getting? If the code is for cyl 3, why do you suspect 2, 4 & 5 are misfiring?

A bad alternator can cause issues like this (multiple cyl misfires). A loose or corroded connection in the ignition system can also cause your problem (e.g. battery terminals, alternator connections, spark plug wire connections etc). Most auto-parts stores will test an alternator and battery for free (call ahead first, of course).

Good luck...

I have a scanner on it and watching the cylinder contribution test. I'll try cleaning the alt. connections today andput dielectric grease on the plug wire ends.

If that doesn't fix it, take the car to your local auto parts store and have them test the alternator. If the alternator is faulty, it could cause your problem. Good luck...

I guess you have already swapped plugs with #3 to see if it follows it. What manufactorer ignition coil did you purchase? No changes at all with new ign parts before and after the problem noticed?
The battery light comming on is something to pay attention to. You can follow the voltage with a multimeter from alt to battery ect.. and look for a drop.

What amount were you expecting? I've always been taught that you want all the cyl's to have similar amounts. If one is considerably off, you have a problem. Otherwise its fine.
