Default Idling Vibrations

howdy everyone, just have a small little question that i was hoping someone might have an answer to

my mustang vibrates terribly when it idles. i replaced the plugs and wires a month ago or so to try and help but it didn't change anything and i can't see anything conspicuously wrong with any connections or what have you

my brother thinks it's my vibration dampener but i really don't want to spend that kind of money until i try some other ways, i just need to figure what else i can do about it

anything is welcome, if it helps it's the 3.8L V6 5-speed manual with a massive exhaust leak, hope someone has an answer, thanks!!

It sounds like it could be an intake leak. My engine was vibrating which in turn vibrated the whole car. Once I replaced the gaskets it stopped vibrating.

Though i'm kind of in the same boat as you. I replaced my intake gaskets before and it stopped. Now that i've had my heads redone and put the engine back together it's vibrating while idling. Then again, thinking about it... it could be the EGR valve. How's the acceleration on your car?

Also check out your motor-mounts. Even with a large leak the motor-mounts should be dampening the vibrations a lot. Good luck...

@FCMustang, actually i've had EGR problems for about as long as I've had the car (about 2 years now) and I put a new EGR valve on last year and that didn't change anything. Originally i read my error code that it was throwing and it said it was the valve, but when i replaced it it was still giving me the check engine, so i went and got it read again and it told me that my EGR flow is too great and insufficient at the same time....which didn't make much sense to me, and it's still showing the same codes haha

and the acceleration....well it's fairly decent i would say, there are some times when it doesn't get up like it has before

actually now that I think about it, there are times when it doesn't vibrate quite as bad and then there are times when it'll be terrible, and there's no correlation to the fact that there are times when it can move a little quicker than other times haha, damn thing needs a lot of work, but i sure love her

@ petrock, that's another thing my brother was thinking, I just haven't had a chance to look down there, just to be safe what kinds of things should I be looking for to tell if it's a bad mount or not? lulz sorry, i can be sort of noobish with certain things :P

The mount should have rubber in it. Check the condition of the rubber. If its cracked/worn/damaged then replace it. If they look OK, start the car and rev the motor a few times. The mounts should not move, but the motor should move slightly within the mounts. Good luck...
