Default Why does everyone hate on Ford?

One of my roommates and I were discussing cars as we walked to my stang. He then pointed at the Ford emblem on the back of the car and said "at least they circled the problem with your car." I've heard some of the Ford acronyms as well. What gives? Are they really that bad?

Depends...got a Pinto or an ***-pire lately?? You hear of the Focus? The first model year we in the repair industry called it "Total Recall". And not because Arnold liked it. Everyone has thier favorite car. And everybody has thier favorite car to beat up on. Mine is CHEVY..
Just remember...Friends don't let friends drive Chevy's! And Bowties are for little boys!

Well Ford does have reliability problems - like the plastic intake crap on the 4.6 cars for example. But Ford has really got it together recently, and its a little ecessive to hate that much. By the way do your friends drive import cars?

Ford and Chevy Rivalry is flat out GHEY! Who cares, Ford has a very harsh past ( manily 70s 80s and 90s) At least they are coming out with great new products like that are actually worth the money you spend on them such as the 500, new Mustang, Fusion, and so much more..as well as GM

In general, I think GM makes better cars than FORD, its just that simple. Sure they have their weak and strong points but GM is a better Car company in general. Now does that mean Ford is crap, hell no Fords rocks. I base my opinion on facts.

Who am I loyal to most? am I bias? maybe... but it depends, GM and Ford both offer cars that appeal to me. now DCX, thats a differnt story lol [:'(]

Everybody needs something or somebody to pick on, sometimes for no reason, sometimes for a legit reason, and sometimes just to make themselves feel better (which is akin to no reason).

I've picked on Ford...and Chevy...and Honda...because I'm a Dodge guy at heart. But I recognize that every manufacturer has made good cars and they've made bad cars.
The original Ford Taurus, anyone?
The Chevy Citation?
The Dodge Aspen?
Pinto?
Vega?
Pacer?
Sterling?
TC by Maserati?
The original Honda Civic Wagovan?
Subaru Justy?
Chevette?

Sometimes it's just healthy bench racing. "Brand x can beat Brand y...because I read it in a magazine"..."Consumer Reports says..."..."this guy I know at the dealer said that they suck, so..."

Seriously, you want serious reliability? Buy a Toyota. Want serious gas mileage with adequate performance? Buy a Honda. Want a car with character and style? Buy anything else besides the first two I mentioned.

My $.02

Ford is an all around better car that GM, My step dad had a 1993 V-6 camaro from a dealer for about $700 that i was gonna buy and do a 347 Ford and tremec tranny. Went with him for a little ride, and i stoped in a parking lot, down into first gear (it was an auto) left foot onto the brake and down on the gas. HE BLEW IT UP! The tranny was screwed, somthing on the drive shaft was twisted (u joints maybe) some problem with the axles, and it had overheated so it probaly did something to the block. all with only 84k on it, and at 3700 rpm with the redline at 5500. The 6er stang will sit there and just keep spinnin them errrr the one right up to the red line

Ford has come along way since the 70s pinto where, in a rear collission, the doors would lock shut and the gas tank would explode.
On the compact side, I'd take a newer focus over a neon, or cavaleir anyday. Even the cobalt, despite being drastically better than the cavelier, has some quirks.(It's really hard to see out the back, and when you actually put a drink in the cup holder, you can't get to the A/C controls.) The base model ion is a complete piece of crap. (How many cars have door handles that break off when you're trying to open it) Sunfire isn't exactly anything special either. A girl at work had to get rid of one because the chassis wasn't struturally sound and it started to fall apart. She has since bought an 04 V6 mustang and is quite happy. A buddies grand-am had seats that would move around when you drive. They had to take back his whole vehicle because if he got into an accident or even in a hard turn, the entire passenger seat would break off of the floor and no shop would fix it due to liability. He got a mazda 3 and is quite happy. Wouldn't get a neon since it hasn't changed in a decade, and it shows, and it wasn't that great to begin with but lasted cause it was marketed pretty well and the female population thought it was "cute". The Aveo is an echo wannabe turd.

This is not to say that higher end models like the GTO, Silverado 4WS and hybrid, C6 vette, saturn sky, and a large number of other newer vehicles... aren't paving the way for a better GM reputation. Just look at how cool cadillac has gotten in the past few years.

Dodge isn't exactly impressing me right now but that is mainly because of the charger, magnum, which are just ruining the names of those cars. Kinda like how they completly ruined the name of plymouth by sticking it on minivans and neons, before retiring it. Not to mention, the calibur is an eyesore.

All three companies make great pickup trucks now, and despite the fact that this seems to be where alot of tension is between the companies, it's funny that it's one of the few vehicles that they have all gotten right. I'd take a deisel ford myself if I had a need for one, but if a silverado was at the right price point, I wouldn't pass it up.

I think ford is making pretty good cars. I'm impressed with the trucks, SUVs (though there are way too many, especially in lincoln/mercury), and cars, particularly the 05+ mustang.

You can take all that for what it's worth. I had a girl mention, "I would never drive a ford" once, but after riding my car, she had a new outlook. Any way you look at it, the big three are gonna have a nice and fresh alternative to European and Japanese/Korean cars and all of them are in it for the long haul. Each company has some talented engineers that will offer this or that feature which is better than the rest. Stiff foreign competition will help keep a limit on major issues in the future because these days, profit margins are smaller and recalls cost a fortune, in terms of the actual work to fix the vehicles and the long term damage to the reputation.
