Default ecu question

I have a 98 v6 and my stock ecu sucks. I bought a diablo ecu programmer, but I only have a few options on the programmer. I can't remove the top speed limitator, or set my engine to new wheel base sizes. I can retune my gear and idle settings, but not too much else. I was wondering if anybody knew if a 99-04 ecu would work in a 98. This might be a dumb question, but asking never hurts.

Thanks for the web site offers, but I don't believe that any of these other ecu programmers will do any good. In other words its not the programmer thats the problem, because my diablo programmer is designed for 96-04 mustangs, I think the problem is my out of date ecu which is why I asked my question of wheater or not a new ecu would work on an older car.

I would say that I'm neutral. They are an excellent tool to have, but the price is rather high, look on ebay for great deals, I got a $400 diablo ecu programmer for $275. Only 94-98 mustangs cause the problem of not being able to use all of the programmers options. Remember 94 and 95 mustangs are not compatable with some programmers. If not sure look up the programmer or ask. Some of the options you have are that you can reset your shift points, allowing better accerleration, and reset your idle speeds, which can give your car a slightly better boost of the line. Even though I can't change my top speed, I did raise my 1/4 mile speed by 5mph, so check them out, but look for a bargain.

But you can install a SCT Super Chip, or Hypertech HyperChip and use thier progreammers. I guess I shoulda been more clear. Sorry.

IMO, HELL YES it's worth it. Just using Diablo's preset tune, I got 8 more RWHP at the 3200rpm range and 8 more RWTorque overall. Look at my dyno thread in the speed zone. I posted the charts. The guy doin the dyno told me I can get a lot more by remaping the Fuel Injection. Which I intend to do. He guessed around 15-20 more RWHP and 15-25 for f/lbs of torque. We'll see.

Remember you have more options than I do with your year, yes I agree this thing is awesome, but for 96-98 stangs, they are only. O.K., but they do present us with some options, but not enough to have a $300 or more price tag. In short. 99-04 stangs buy them. 96-98 do some research, and see if you can get one at a lower price, because you will have some limitations.
