air conditioning

I have a 1998 3.8 liter v6 with 158,000 miles. The air conditioning works fine
when riding for long distances but, in start and stop traffic the temp gauge starts to rise to the high side and warm air starts blowing any suggestions?

Sounds like the radiator fan is not coming on.

Enough airflow through the grill when moving but not when sitting still or in traffic.

The radiator fan should be on anytime the A/C is on.
