Default 2002

i have a 2002 right now that I bought in about March. It has a tiny spot about 3 cm in length and 2cm in width on the passenger door that has a little bit of surface rust and it has a spot on the roof that looks like a rock hit it and exposed the metal, that has rusted a little bit too. It is a Mineral Grey metallic color. I had a quote done to fix the rust by a local body shop, just for the door it's around $390, and I just found out about the roof. I'm guessing in total repairs are going to cost about $600-$700. I was just wondering how long you think it will take for them to do the whole job? like how long do you think it will take for the paint to fully cure so I don't have to be extremly careful about where I drive it? I know though for a fact that they are going to bake it.

If its getting baked you should be fine when you get it back.

Full paint job is $2500-3000 for a good professional grade paint job. As far as time, you need to ask the shop. That will range wildly depending on how busy they are, and what all needs to be done besides just the paint job.

It's not a full Paint Job i'm only getting the roof done and the passenger door. Should I go somewhere else that is more expensive to make sure the job gets done right?

Where is a good place to get a paintjob done?

Check 'em out with BBB, Call the paint suppliers near them, check with car clubs, and get references. Check the shop-clean, well organized, how long in business? look at samples.

Over all, a private shop that survives for a few years has to be good to satisfy both the customers and the insurance companies.

Good Luck

I think what Jthorn was getting at is that the cost is so high that it is close to the low end of a Pro paint job of the ENTIRE car.

Most body shops I have called over the last couple years charge about $200 per body panel, taxed and out the door. Some are a little more but not much, figure $400-600 as a rough cost to fix the surface rust, sand, prime, paint, wetsand.

Check into their other work, how pissed would you be if the color did not match and it was all orange peeled?

Always check into a shops work before letting them touch your car.

btw you have a color that will be hard for them to match, not to mention that the car has 10 years of sun fade to boot. It takes a really good shop to nail it dead on.

I actually had the car painted last week. •side story• when I bought the car the mileage, exterior and interior condition were indicators the previous owner garaged it for most of its life. It sat on a dealer lot for a year before I bought it. Anyway it took the shop a total of 3 days to complete the job. The car came out awesome they painted the entire door and it matches so well there is no way to tell it was even painted. The door looks amazing. There was no time for the paint to cure, the car was ready to drive the day they completed it. They even fixed and painted the roof rust for free. They gave me a touch up kit for little scratches. They were overall awesome. Total cost was $400 and I honestly couldn't be any happier with how the car came out. I will post pictures later.

For the two spots, $400 fits right in where I said it should be.

Glad that you are happy with it and found someone that could match that color perfectly and without leaving orange peel.

I completely forgot to show everyone a picture of how the paint job came out. Really the only difference is that the freshly painted door is shinier than the rest because of the fresh clear coat haha.
