Default emission test failer

im about to buy a 2001 v6 stang and on the carfax report it says that 2 times it failed emissions tests. and it shows that the exhaust, electrical, and emissions were serviced a year or so before. what should i do?

Well if I were you, I would go check the car out and see if there is anything visibly wrong, or see if the car has an H or X pipe without cats, or see if the car is buring oil. Remember, there are tons of 99-04 used mustangs out there, so if this one just doesn't feel right, keep looking you'll find a good one.

Tell the seller, as a condition of you buying it, he has to provide a smog cert. In Cali, the seller is responsible by law for providing the smog cert anyway. Sure it doesn't happen that way all the time, but it's a built in safety for buyers. Otherwise, this is what I used to tell my customers when they brought a car in for pre sale diagnostics. If you have the SLIGHTEST doubt, don't buy it.

well it turns out it was some PFE valve that went out (he told me what that was but i fogot) and it was only $27 to replace it so all is good...ive only had my mustang for 4 hours and im already in love with it[sm=Awwww.gif][sm=loveeyes.gif]

Glad to hear it wasn't something horrible. Is this the stock exhaust or is it aftermarket?

Anyways, congrats on the car... you'll love it for years to come! I still love mine as much as I did when I first got her.
