Help with installing my Clutch
Well I got my Spec Stage III Clutch from www.Stangsuspension.com today. It looks great, hope it feels as good as it looks. I went out and bought aChilton 94-98 Repair Manual to help me. I went out and got 3 bottles of 80w-90 gear fluid as well. I have yet to buy my sandpaper and dont really know if i need brake fluid.

Also how do I go about measuring my clutch to determine that they sent me the correct size, I need an 11" for myV6 5spdand want to make sure they didnt send me a 10.5" for the V8 models.

Basicly i need to know what grit sandpaper i need to refinish my flywheel, if 120 is what I need or something else, i need to know if i need brake fluid and how much gear oil i will need as well, if 3 bottles each containing 0.946 liters will do it or if i will need more.

I could also use some tips, Do's and Donts and what to watch for any everything. That would be a great help, I have never even worked on a manual tranny ever in my life, just Chevy auto's (TH350 and TH400.)

Thanks guys, Sincerely Eric.

dont forget the pilot bearing....thats important....also check the main seal while you're down there....check the speedogear in the tranny....also if you're having problems with O2 sensors, its a good time to fix those as well...p.s.. when putting the driveline back in make sure you get aligned perfect....i thought i got mine but now i gotta do it again...getting some nasty vibration.....just a few heads up pointers....hope it helps....
oops almost forgot watch your torque....get a torque wrench if you dont have one ......the bolts on the flywheel and the clutch have to be tightened to specific torques and its easier if you have a wrench to preset it so you dont under or over torque
yep put in a new rear main seal..you don't use sand paper on the flywheel..go have it machined and checked..you paid well over 200 for the clutch kit don't be cheap on the flywheel also it wouldn't hurt to buy new bolts grade 10 if you can get them..this would also be a good time to put in a new alum quadrant at least.replace your clutch fork if bent most are
good luck
good luck
Thanks for the info that you gave me, but i don't know how i should go about dropping the drive shaft. Do I have to knock out the U joint? How do I put it back together if i do have to? Are there any special tools that I need to have with me to do this aside from my regular sockets and wrenches?

Something else that would help is a step by step walk through with pictures and illustrations ^_^ I cant find anything like that online, and the Chilton is rather, sparse.

Im not having any problems with my O2 sensors I think, it passed Sacramento county smog perfectly and Cali is a hard place to smog a car with probs
Will that affect smog or power or fuel efficiency?
About the pilot bearing, Im not sure what it is, In the Spec Clutch kit i got a alignment tool, the pressure plate and clutch surface, and the throw out bearing i think is what it is (A large metal ring with plastic molding on it) But there is a small metal ring in the picture from Spec that didn't come with my kit, I called Stangsuspension and asked Josh to call me back, he is the owner, he helped me with a shipping issue last week. Would that be the pilot bearing, the small metal ring? I will attach some pictures.

I know my speedo is right on so i don't think i have to change the gear. But i wanted to upgrade to a 160mph speedometer and don't know if i have to change my cable or what. I also wanted to gets a set of 18" Black Bullitt Rims with lo-pro Toyo tires and i know i will need a new gear in my tranny for that but i don't know where to buy one. Any links?

Thanks again Everyone, this is a difficult but fun learning experience.

Sincerely Eric

the u joint is a piece of cake just undo the bolts and take it apart....the pilot bearing in the bearing that is in the back of the main block....it houses the very tip of the transmission....you have to have a slide hammer to remove that bearing its in there pretty good...if all else fails grab a pal who's done a clutch before....
Man it is hard to track down these parts at local parts dealers like Napa and Autozone. I have to get the clutch quadrant and Fork from ebay. The Quadrant and cable are going for $39.00

Is there an online store that I could go to to get a great deal on the quadrant and fork?

OH! Where is the clutch quadrant? Is it under the dash or something?
