Default V6 o/r x-pipe Pipe question

Hey, so I have an 04 v6 that was already converted to a dual exhaust when I bought it. I'm planning on swapping out the weak exhaust with the Flowmaster American Thunder catback. I'm also planning on getting a o/r x-pipe.

My question is will a gt o/r x-pipe fit or do I have to buy the v6 version? American muscle has a v6 version. I just wanted to know if i can use the gt version or not.

Thanks in advance

V6 version.

Just a heads up, it will sound raspy with out cats and you'll lose power down low.

That depends on location however, in some states it is, in some states it is not

It is a federal law requiring cats, you need cats to be legal in AMERICA not just certain states. It's just some states don't do smog so they don't usually check for them. That's what people get confused with. No I'm not harping on following the law here either, my last daily had no cats, but as far as sound if not done just right, a mustang without cats sounds terrible.

SilverShadow747,

These guys already mentioned it, but just to confirm. You will need to use a v6 dual exhaust midpipe instead of the GT style. The GT midpipe meets at different points and will have to be heavily modified in order to work with your v6.

Also, you'll need CEL eliminators (or tuner) to get rid of the check engine light your Mustang will throw after deleting the cats. Just a heads up!

Well I was mainly referring to where he was saying he had to fork the dough for hi-flows come spring because it's illegal, and that it may not matter for OP depending on state. But also, mustangs in general sound bad without cats? Or just these new edges v6's? Because I have heard several mustangs without cats that sound pretty good!

Thanks for the information guys. I think I may just keep the catted x-pipe on it and just have the bolt on the Flowmaster catback then. Hopefully it sounds right.

It doesn't matter what state he is in, by law in the United States you are required to have cats, it's just some states don't have smog tests so they don't always look for them, on the off chance that a non smog state see the cats are gone during inspection he can fail you. And v6 mustangs in general don't usually sound good without cats, unless set up just right. So for hassle and sound it's just as easy to keep some form of catalytic converters on the car, I had two of the stock four removed from my system when I had my duals fabbed.
