Default service engine light

when i first bought the car this light was on, but the guy said it was the exhaust, and i had seen this before, so i didn't think much about it. well i changed my tranny oil, and the light went off. so i was like heck yeah. then i was driving around the other day and the light came back on. this makes me think that it still is the o2 sensors, cause when i was under the car changing the tranny oil, i messed with the sensors a little bit. i wiggled them and pushed on them. any suggestions why this would be?? what should i do?? any help is welcomed.

Is it the "Service Engine Soon" lite or the "Check Engine" lite. If the Service lite, don't worry. It's an interval reminder lite. What year is the car? The Check Engine lite is the one you need to worry about.

Depends. At a certain milage, it comes on for a major tune, another is recommended O2 replacement. Either way, it doesn't mean there's anything wrong. It's just a reminder. You can consult your local shop to find out how to turn it off. I know most of the GM's tricks, but not too many of the Ford reset proceedures. OR, you can go to www.alldata.com and subscribe for your car. It will give you the same thing as the shops get, but only for your year specific vehicle, and a lot less than shops pay. Our shops paid 400 per quarter for alldata. That was for EACH shop.

it only has 35,000 miles on it. when i bought it the guy said he had hooked one of those code readers to it and said it was the o2 sensor, and said he thought it did that because of the exhaust.nto me the exhaust looks fine, since it was re-done for flowmasters, and that maybe the sensors are just bad.

Do you have a code reader or flash tuner? If so, you can monitor the O2's and reset the lite. Otherwise, you gotta take it to a shop. UNFORTUNATLY!

no i don't have either. if i got a tuner could i turn the light off though if it was just the o2 sensors?? i was thinking about getting a tuner anyways, and this would just be more of an excuse to get one.

If the sensor/s are bad, it would just come back on. With the code reader/tuner, you could actually watch the operation of the O2's and see if they're bad. Just because the O2 sensor trips the lite, doesn't mean the sensor is bad. It's telling you SOMETHING in the sensor circuit is tripping it. Could be wiring, or even the computer. You need to do some troubleshooting.
