Default Possible Transmission Problems?

Ok guys I recently have had a concern with my 2000 v6. The tranny shifts fine and everything. Gets out out of the hole fine and everything. The concern I have is this. Whenever I'm on the highway and I punch it to the floor my car will rev real high, about 5k, but it doesn't seem to accelerate the way it should. The gauge will go up slightly and sometimes it doesn't seem to move at all. After I few seconds I let off because I get worried its gonna break something. I just think it should accelerate a lot faster when it's at that high of rpms and the only culprit I could think of is the tranny. Like I said before it doesn't do this when your normally goin through gears, only when stepping on it.

Is your car automatic or manual? if it's manual your clutch is slipping, you'll feel it much more in higher gears than low gears.

Can you feel it downshift and grab or does it just go limp and rev up? have you checked your tranny fluid level/condition? check after a drive when its warmed up and running and look for shiny bits of metal in the fluid. All I can think of is worn clutches and bands or low/cooked fluid. It could be that it's worn just enough that it holds under normal driving but when you put a big load on it by going wide open it's more than the transmission can handle.
I'm sure someone else here has experienced this before and can give you a better idea but that's what my guess is. Hopefully it's only something like a 5$ sensor gone bad, it's pretty funny how much of a headache the smallest thing can cause on vehicles these days.

Torque Converter?

The on on our 85 Trans-Am went out once and we just had the shop undo it somehow..not sure what they did but it didn't do its job. A couple years later we fixed it. thing had no power at all lol and felt like it slipped.

Ya I can feel it downshift but it then revs all high like 5k with little to know acceleration. It just feels like something's not catching. That only happens when goin full throttle tho. I checked the fluid when I discovered it n seemed fine but ill check it again. I was thinking it could be a sensor as well but how would u tell?

If it was the converter wouldn't the car not move at all?

A bad torque converter should be pretty obvious, it would show up under just about any load. There are a few tests you can do to your converter but they're.. risky if you're not careful but you can test the lock-up clutch by taking it up to highway speeds (50-60 MPH? I'm from canada so 80-100 KMH) and watch the RPM, when it shifts into overdrive watch your revs, it should eventually drop about 300 rpm when you keep your speed steady, that's the torque converter locking up since it doesn't have to multiply torque while you're cruising.

I would be interested to know the diagnosis on this as well because my 2003 v6 also does what sounds like a similar thing from time to time. Me and some buddies were actually just talking about this very same thing tonight.
