!!!!!!!!STEERING PROBLEMS!!!!!!!!
My mustang is a 1998 v6 5 spd. with about 80,000 miles on it. Recently i have been having some real trouble turning the steering wheel. At idle there is basically no power steering, try as i might i cant move the steering wheel. after 1,000 rpm or so the steering works normally. Last summer i replaced the power steering pump and lines (pump wasn't replaced because of failure but for other reasons). Because of the age of the car and knowing what has already been replaced i suspect that my problem lies with my rack and pinion. I've flushed the power steering fluid several times, and even ran a bottle of sea foam trans tune through it with no avail. before i go replacing the rack I want to make sure that that is my problem first. Could the stiff steering be caused by a bad shock/shock mount bearing? The passenger side shock started making some noise when turning and hitting bumps a while back; before replacing what appeared to be a perfectly good shock I hit it with some pb blaster and the sound went away so it didn't get replaced. The shock intermittently makes sounds when turning. Problems with steering started 2 months back after pulling into a parking garage after getting off of the freeway. What do you guys think?
