What is a "slity" noise?? Have you watched to make sure the clicking or tapping at idle isnt the tensioner pulley worn out and slapping around? Or the a/c kicking on and off a bunch without input?

If the noise stopped with the belt off it has to be something the belt turns.... water pump maybe a suspect possibly

Watch the ac compressorand make sure it isnt some how kicking on and off. Wild chance but ya never know?

And when you used the scope was the motor running or were you just turning stuff by hand?

I'd start by replacing the belt. Could just be time to replace, if its slipping it will make noise under load.

Have you checked the tensioner for any play?
