Default Heater Problems

Hey guys long time no see! I guess it's good because I haven't really been having problems with my car. That was until this weekend. It finally got cold enough down here in Texas to warrant turning the heater on in the car. However, I noticed after an hour long drive that it wasnt working at all. I checked the coolant levels, and damn did it need some coolant. I thought this might help, and it did a little bit. It went from blowing cold air to mildly cool air. Maybe about 75 degrees i didn't measure it. However, sometimes it will do this then all of the sudden it will go back to working full blast heater for about 2 min then revert to mildly cool. I'm confused as to what to do. I know latemodel has heater cores for not to much, but the work involved is a lot. Do y'all have any ideas? I dont want to do much because i'll probably be selling my car soon

Thanks y'all always help

Sounds like there is a air bubble in the system.

That sounds better than a whole heater core! Could this come from inactivity? How would one go about bleeding the system to get this air bubble out? Thanks!

DO NOT START CAR YET. Make sure car is cold. Turn all the heater settings up as high as you can, take coolant cap off, START CAR, slowly add coolant till it wont take anymore.

^this
it will take a while as you have to get the car up to operating temp so the thermostat will open. this will ensure air is removed from the entire system.

Don't reinstall the radiator cap until you are done.

Alright thanks for the advice! I added coolant while the car was off over the weekend. I filled it up but now there is no doubt in my mind there are air bubbles. I'm stuck at college but once I get home on the weekend I'll do it correctly this time. Thanks guys!
