Exclamation V6 Exhaust Setup Help

For some reason, instead of my Y pipe being bolted to the muffler pipe, my Y pipe is welded to my muffler pipe. I need to disconnect the two, I'll cut it no problem, but i don't have welding equipment, so putting it back together is going to be difficult. Instead of having a mechanic weld it for me, can i clamp it back with muffler clamps? Seems a little unsafe, but what is your opinion?

You should be able to cut out about 18" and find a replacement pipe large enough to slip over both ends.
