Intake..or..Exhaust
Well after posting here i got some good advice on exhausts (thanks guys). Then i went to my local auto shop, and a guy that specializes in american autos, told me the best way to go with my exhaust is, A MAC h-pipe and header combo-$300, and a magnaflow system-$400. Thats kinda a lot of money dont you think?... He said hes done it many times on v6 mustangs, and it definitly comes as close to a roaring v8, as you can. Then he recommended that i get a cold air intake-$200-includes instalation. I just wanted to know what you guys thought about these prices, I definitly dont have money to do both of them yet, but which one should I invest in first?
-He didnt recommend the gt takoffs because he said when you step on the gas "they will know your driving a 6"

why would he tell you to get a $300 H pipe?
i know a guy in the local club who had GT takeoffs on his v6. he only had that and no mufflers at one point and it had a rumble. it wasn't loud at all, but it was there. put flowmasters on it and it sounded like a stock v8. that guy you talked to is an idiot.

So what if when you step on the gas they will know you're driving a 6....if that's what you're driving be glad to have what you got. A GT takeoff is perfect for a dual conversion, especially on a mildly modded V6. The 2 1/4" diameter pipes will maintain some of your low end torque, they don't sound bad, and best of all they're cheap relative to a new aftermarket catback.
him saying that gt takeoffs make it SOUND like a v6 shows how much he knows. The 2 1/4" piping is a perfect setup for the stock to semi bolt on mustang. If you put the 2 1/2" piping on it from an aftermarket with a semi stock stang, not only will it sound worse but it will cause you to LOSE POWER. You do not NEED an hpipe AND headers give you some 2hp...for about $300...that worth it to you? I dont think so. GT TAKEOFFS, change mufflers...$200 parts there

That mechanic is a complete ripoff and an ***. Tell him to shove it and take your car somewhere else. If you want the GT sound, everyone suggests the GT takeoffs, that's what I'm going to do with mine when I get the money. Then just pair it up with your choice of mufflers, which I suggest for a v6, get the flowmaster series.
As for an intake, $200 is WAY overpriced for an intake, and you definitely can install that yourself. My opinion is that a CAI is a CAI and an ebay one is just as good. I got mine for like $50 and its GREAT. Easy install and I can definitely hear the air sucking it. It's the same effect as the $150 ones. And like I said, easy easy install... I'm a girl with very small technical knowledge with cars and it took me 45 mins to do it.
