Default Replacing Fuel Fill Grommet

I have a 99 V6 Base Mustang Convertible, and noticed fuel leaking after I fill up. It's without a doubt the Grommet that seals the fill tube.
I am ready to replace it but am getting two different methods.
One shows dropping the tank, the other shows removing the fill tube without dropping the tank.
Anyone have a preference, which would be easier?

Thanks

I wasn't aware it could be done without dropping the tank. Sounds like an attractive idea, but I'm not sure how much room it's going to give you to work. I replaced mine a couple years ago, and lowered the tank to do it. Make sure to smear some petroleum jelly (Vaseline) one the new grommet so it'll slip right in.

drop the tank, but first run the fuel close to empty should only take an hour or so laying on the ground.

I replaced mine in the 96. I did not drop the tank to do it. I did loosen the tank straps on the filler side and removed all bolts holding the filler neck in place.

to reinstall, i put the gasket on the filler neck first and then once i had the neck in the tank i pushed the gasket into place.

Thanks for the advice, My only problem is I have limited space to get the car in the air to drop the tank. I have 3/4 tank of gas to figure out what I'm going to do... LOL thanks

With a decent set of jack stands under the axle you have more than enough room to drop the tank, I just did this when I had to replace my fuel pump, and mine is lowered. A second set of hands helps tremendously.

Thanks Archion, I think that's the plan.
