Default ECM computer problems

Hello, I was wondering if someone could tell me what I need to know about the ECM/PCM in my 2003 Ford Mustang.

I just bought a 2003 V6 Mustang today that a mechanic told the previous owner had a bad ECM. I drove it home and it's extremely under power and does not rev up.

I found out about a website that programs the computer for you by sending them your Vin #. I have done some reading on these forums but I'm not sure what the "PATS" system is that has to match the computer.

i have replaced the computer in my ranger before but it was just plug and play.

What do I need to know before buying a computer?
Is there a reputable site for getting a computer?
What is the PAT system?
Thanks,

Before you go buy a PCM for it, take it to Autozone and have them read the codes. I doubt its a computer issue.

Default Why?

Why would you doubt that it's the computer?

Because I dont ever take any ones word about what someone else told them, There are way to many mechanics who dont understand the OBDII system and they just take a guess at it. It would suck to buy a new PCM , pay to have it programmed, only to find out all you need to do is replace a pair of 40 dollar 02 sensors. Take it and have it scanned for yourself. They dont charge you to scan for codes and its worth it to save a couple hundred bucks.

Autozone sells them remanned PCMs for about 200 bucks. But Im pretty sure it still needs to be taken to a dealer so they can program the pats system.

Yeah, I agree with dawson, I don't think it's a computer issue. When my computer went out on my 01 mustang pretty much nothing on the car worked, let alone let the car crank and start.

It's more likely that an o2 sensor or something just went bad. If you have an automatic like mine with an bad o2 sensor you typically lose overdrive. Which makes it feel like you lost half the engine power.

So I had the codes read and I'm not sure how to interpret them.

Could anyone tell me what these mean?

Thanks
