How is the idle? Does it drop? May be the IAC (Idle air control) valve

Is temp gauge rising to hot with AC use? If so, likely the radiator is partly plugged.

The idle is fine till the problem happens then it bogs down till it stalls and the tem gage stays in operating range

You should be getting an engine code that will tell you the issue.

Unusual, I am stumped. Take car to a Ford dealer. I also have a 2004 Mustang and is a convertible.
