Default New v6 Stang

I just bought a 2002 mustang v6 manual trans... i wanted a GT, and the only reason i got a 6er is because i got it for under 9 w/ 33,000 miles on it... I couldn't pass up the deal. But now that i have it, it's not as fast as i expected. I have maybe 450-500 to blow on it, what can i do to make it perform better? Stock everything at the moment. I've heard getting a MAC CAI is my best bet... any other opinions though?

Well, 3:73 gears is going to be your biggest change to get the pep out of your V6. After that do your bolt on stuff like Chip/programmer, exhaust, CAI, Pulleys, etc.
V6 Stangs are commuter cars and have horrible off the line time. If you want to compete on the street, start with gears and possi traction.

My friend is trying to sell his 00 5spd with 78K miles dark green with tan leather for around $5500 and no one wants it. You could have bought that and had 3K ot play with.

Sorry to hijack your thread but Me and my friend bought both of our 2000 Mustang V6's in 2003 with roughly 60K miles on them. We both paid $6500 at the time. Both have clear titles and everything. I guess I run into good deals b/c I got my 96 GT over the summer with 93K miles(ghost miles b/c no speedo fix) with 3.73's, brand new Tremec tranny, new white paint job, clean title, perfect interior(not one scratch) high flow cats, and exhaust. I paid $4000 cash and the guy was happy to sell b/c him and his wife wanted to go on a cruise. I guess im just lucky[8D]

4.10s and a t-lok deffinatly, now your gonna be saving on insurance, and initial buy cost, and fuel, so you can keep upgrading it and hopefully soon it will be just as fast as a GT, done correctly, once you get the gears, a nitrous kit will work good for you too.

OK, PM autobadges to get a quote on a cai. There is one for sale on ebay for $40, with a K&N filter, same kit as mine and no problems. Now that leaves aroun 400 to play with. Gears are good, but will run you around 700, but you already have 3.25 gears, so you should be well off for just the basic bolt ons, but after that get the gears changed with either 3.73s or 4.10s. Next up buy a set of uderdrive pulleys, again PM autobadges, or look up on rpmoutlet.com, they have a full pulley kit with the 42% size reduced crank pulley, h.o. water pump pulley, belt, and harmonic balancer for 200. Now for the last 200 I would see about geting either a diablo or a xcal 2 hand tuner off of ebay. All of these together will realistically give you around 20-25 hp depending on how you tune your car.

Okay - I was looking on ebay for a CAI. I hear K&N and MAC are good brands... But $40 is really cheap... don't they run for like $250 normally? I don't want to buy something and be stupid about it.
