Default Tire width?

I saw the thread on here about tires and made me remember mine. Mine are getting way way old and definitly need replaced. Currently I have 255/40/17 and some other numbers but I cant remember, I think it is 255/40/R17Z W38 or soemthing like that. Also, the tires are mounted on cobra wheels. Is this the only width I can fit on that wheel or could I stick 275's on it? I dont think there is any clearance problems on my 98 because the 255's are fine and someone said in the other forum that 275's are clear too.

you should be able to. they'll bulge a bit, but not much. i have 275s on my stock 17" wheels on my GT. i recommend kumho's. they're cheap, good traction and decent tread.

Ok, i didnt know if it was safe for a tire could buldge alittle out the side. How much wider are they exactly?

Yea, I have Kuhmo's now. They are so bald if I take off fast I can burn rubber for a hundred feet or so, lol, i should of took a picture of that, I only did it once.

they look a lot meaner.

it was the widest tire i could get on my rims. even if i could go wider i wouldn't. pretty sure anything over 275 requires you to tune your car for or your speedo will be off. [:-]

275s stock, and i dont think you would need to adjust the speedo for width, just height, why would the width control how far it rolls?

I dont know, to put a long stroy short they were used... I put maybe 10,000 on so far and they were getting pretty iffy when i got them

I currently have 255/40 on a 17x8 rim but maybe we are asking the same question

How tall are the stock tires then? I cant remember. If I do get the 275's, should I stay with my 40's or perhaps go with 50's? I dont think I should go any lower than 40.
