oil question used car synthetic or non synthetic?
or got a used car the guy I got it from got it from an impound auction, now is there anyway to tell regular dirty oil from synthetic dirty oil, because I dun know what they used before so how am I to know what to put in my new (er) 92 (4cyl) mustang convertible?
And should I use synthetic or not? what are the benefits?[&:] engine has 137k miles on it and seems ok except for the MPG right now (still tracking down those causes)

on a regular car it really doesn't matter what kind of oil you use especially the 2.3L OHC ford.
standard cheap oil is fine for the normal 3,000 mile change.
you can add a quart of lucas oil stabilizer to the cheap oil or the expensive stuff if you want. it helps eliminate cold dry starts which is the major source of wear on an engine.

ahhh just the thing is That I was told that if you change your oil from synthetic to normal it will goof up your engine?
And another question what type of oil belongs in this engine 10/30 or what? some ppl say if it's got 137k miles on it to go with 10/40 instead, but then again I'll be going from california to new york soon and for a visit and that means colder weather (way colder) and I heard temp has to do with the choice of oil.

Opinions vary about using synthetics. When I was a GM of a franchise of shops last year, I read a tech article stating that it is no longer true. You can indeed go back to dyno oil. BUT..WHY? Synthetics are better for your engine. They don't break down like dyno oil. They last longer, and they handle dirt much better. So go with synthetics, in my opinion. But if you would rather use inferior dyno oil, just make damn sure you change it every 3000 miles. As for the weight, I would go with 10/30 first. If you find you are using more than a quart in between oil changes, go with 10/40 from then on.
upgrade to synthetics to play it safe.
think about it like this..if it used regular one and you go synthetic is will only HELP the car
if he used synthetic and you put in regular you may cause issues in the car....
so safe and best is synthetic.
thanks pull up to the 2nd window
