EDIT...
some tips to get you started. Get a decent CAI. This doesn't increase the HP by much, bit it will help in throttle response. Dual exhaust also helps the throttle response. Next, under drive pulleys. They do NOT increase HP, but they do TRANSFER HP from driving the engine accessories, ie: P/s, A/C, W/P, Alt, and sends that HP to the rear wheels. You can also get a bigger T/B, but you WILL have to port the intake opening. And if you have the bucks, actually the best bang for the buck IMO, is installing 4.10 gears and a T-Lok. There are stickeys on top on the V6 forum with answers to most questions.
1) exhaust
2) CAI
3) underdrive pullies
4) 4.10 gears and t-loc
5) Tuner to get max performance
Those are the basics...There are still more expensive mods you can do if you had the cash. Gears and tuner aren't exactly cheap, but probably the best bang for your buck.

There are several simple mods that you can do depending on how mechanically inclined you are.
What does your Mustang already have OEM?
manuel transmission or automatic?
duals or OEM exhaust?
Several of us (mostly ALL of us) here list our modifications within our signatures.
Find those and research them on our sponsor's sites.
Asked the sponsors questions. Most of them frequent this forum on a regular basis.

Well i have a 2002 v6, i have done my exhaust i throw in dual flow masters, everything else is basically factory except for an optium battery i throw in cuz of my sound system, i want to put in about 2,000$ worth of perfomance mods, i want to get, a cold air intake, chrome headers i saw on the v6mustang stuff website, a sct tuner, a some perfomance sparks, does anyone have any recommendations for what are the best intakes, sct tuner and spark plugs???
I have just put money in the style, body, rims, lighting interior mods, and now i need more power so i can win some races against some of them other teenagers that have other hooked up, honda civics, acura intergras etc. Does anyone know what the O/D button is really for ??? or what does it do ?

the O/D button is the same as all other cars. It keeps the car from going into 4th gear, sometimes its listed as d3 or 3.
Well the best way is to add a butt load of hp is to install a 42% reduction crank pulley, cai, 65mm tb, 80mm MAF, port the upper and lower intake, port your heads, add in 24lb fuel injectors, install a performance camshaft, get a tuner, add in gears and a t-lok to furthur inhance accelleration, and if you have a manual, put in a short throw shifter, and a racing clutch and cable system. Do all of this and you'll be running 96-01 Cobra times.
