Default v6 to a cobra conversion!

so for ****s and giggles, and since i tend to do things in a wierd way, i was thinking of ripping out my 2000 v-6 engine out, swapping it with a similar year svt cobra engine, making all minor neccesary tweaks on fly-wheels yadda yadda, converting my 5-speed manual to a 6 speed manual, and stuff

what about price wise am i looking at?

not seriously at this time going to do that as my engine has a mere 52k miles on it, but in time, i might make a project outta this one and see where it takes me, so any feed back from fellow enthusiasts and know-howers is appreciated

if youre gonna do it, your best bet would be to use a 5.4L cobra R engine, itll make the swap more worth while. you'll be one of the few with a swapped cobra r engine.

and where might 1 find a 5.4L Cobra R engine for under $20,000

IMHO a swap isn't worth it for the average person because of the work involved and costs of the swap

if you are gonna do it here is what to do

5.4L DOHC Navigator engine with ported heads, more agressive cams, and a sweet twin Holset HX35 turbo setup. can we say 700rwhp with 15psi

Yes, if you are gonna swap, swap right. Through a 330ci Ford V8 in there! As for cost, you'd be better off buying an '03-'04 Cobra and adding some KB in.

Unless you are attatched to your v6 by your *****....get rid of it and buy a new car before you swap in a cobra engine. You will have to mess with the suspension to handle power...the rear end to handle power...all the motor accessories. To make a long story short, its not worth the trouble.

I would say sell the six and get the Cobra, that's what I'm attempting to do, but if you insist, a new Cobra engine, may run anywhere between $2500-$5000, maybe more, but deffinitly not less on a new engine, even a used Cobra engine will cost at least $2000. A new 6 speed manual tranny, roughly $2000, not including installation which I would highly reccommend. You will need dual exhaust for a Cobra, aftermarket will be your best bet, so a good set of h or x pipes with cats will run anywhere between $800-$1200, depending on brand. You will also need to convert your 7.5" rear end to an 8.8" as well as swap out your driveshaft to that of a Cobra, now this I'm not sure on, but with the necessary parts and work your probably looking at probably $1200-$1600. You will probably also need to get a Cobra ecu as I'm not sure your V6 ecu is capable of properly running a Cobra, so that's probably $200 for a used unit, and God only knows how much for a new one. Next will be your shocks and struts because your V6 setup has to go. That will run you anywhere between $400-$2500 depending on what package you go with and what brand you choose, because aftermarket would be the way to go on this one. Now I know you're not going to want those V6 rims, so a set of Cobra rims will be anywhere between $400-$1200+tires, so lets say $1800 for a good set or $800 for replicas. So all in all your looking at probably $9000 worth of parts, maybe more, and a but load of money for a professional installation, so probably $12000 but this is just a guess.

Not to mention getting a new tranny, and rear end. IMO, dump the 6 and just buy a Cobra rather than spending twice as much to build one.

I say go for it! You should be able to find a wrecked Navigator somewhere, grab it's engine and ecu and do it! Of course it's expensive, of course it isn't necessary isn't that what modding is all about? No one needs a 700 hp car but we do it anyways, look at it this way you'll be able to buy top notch components instead of buying the Cobra and turning around and replacing everything with top notch components.
