Default Cat question

OK, after getting dinged by Beast I PM'd autobadges a couple of times and got some questions answered regarding exhaust. I'll be buying the Borla cat back this weekend. Haven't decided for sure yet on the headers but regarding Cats; should I keep the factory cats or go with a high flow set? Forget the exhaust thread. no one goes there.[8D]

Oh BTW, I found the Boral System at autoanything.com for $750. Cheapest I could find. Is that a fair price or should I look else where?

So you are getting a cat-back that goes off the y-pipe? If that's so, you not gonna get anything performance wise and thus I don't see any reason to put high-flow cats.

Look at my pictures....I have Pypes CATs and love them....haven't had to go thru an inspection yet.....but as far as sound and flow....they're good to go. You'll have to relocate the O2 sensors...

Well I'm looking at it two ways. 1) Get an X-pipe now or 2) use it as is and wait till later for X-pipe and headers. I'm a bit confused about the X-pipes. Should I get off road or with cats? Then, how much modification is required to make the Borlas and X-pipe fit? Lots of question to which I currently don't have a lot of answers. If anyone can help, please chime in.

OK, no cats will give you a deeper more aggressive tone, but will cause a loss of back pressure, but an x pipe will help create a hair bit of back pressure, but you will still get a slight hp and torque gain from this mod. You get a v6 x pipe, mustangtuning.com sells one, then you get GT Borla exhaust, the cat back exhaust kit mounts up directly to the x pipe which mounts up directly to the headers. You will also have to get MIL eliminatiors if you get off road x pipes becuase off road x pipes will throw off your O2 sensors which can be corrected my MIL eliminators.

Well, the more money the spend, the better the quality, and the sound.

Went to mustangtuning and the X-pipes for the 04 V-6, both cat'd and straight, are temporarily discontinued. Sent them an email to see when they'll be available again. If I understand what you're saying I should get the X-pipe and a GT Borla. I'm assuming you mean a 04 GT set up for the V-8. Borla has a side exit Cat back for the 04 vert V-6. Will this work with the x-pipe you recommend? I've tried to call Borla but twice I've been on hold for like 30 minutes. In regards to the 40 series set up I'm really not looking for the stock look. I'd prefer to get the side exit if I can do it without a hefty amount of bending and welding. Speaking of welding, even though the Borlas are supposed to be bolt on is it better to weld anyway? Also, will the steel X-pipe be compatible with the Stainless Borlas? Would there be some dissimilar metal corrosion?
